I finally did it! After messing around for so many weeks after the holidays, I decided to take the plunge and commit myself to getting some weight off.
First, I have to admit that when you birth ten children, you tend to have a magnet that’s attached to your hips and that thing seems to attract all kinds of fatty deposits from the food you eat. Okay. I get that fat producing hormones are a naturally occurring thing in women and they’re particularly great for your body during and after pregnancy, but I’m three and three quarters years post partum and have been fluctuating around 10 good pounds over the last year. It may not seem like that’s grossly a lot of weight to have bouncing around, but it’s a killer on my dress size!
While I’ve usually done pretty well on my own, I’ve struggled with the birthdays that come right after the holidays. We have three birthdays before Christmas, one two weeks after Christmas, another towards the end of February, and then one every two weeks after that until April. Then there’s another break until July! It wouldn’t be so taxing, but our family always celebrates an occasion with food. Bad, I know, but it’s realistic. I, honestly, can’t think of one thing we celebrate without involving some sort of eats. So, I had to solicit some help.
Last week, I decided to sign up for Weight Watchers Online program. It’s something I’ve done before, so I’m quite familiar with how things work, and I’m comfortable with it. I also chose to do Weight Watchers because I seriously need to have an idea of how much I should be consuming when I decide to eat things during these crazy, food filled celebrations. I mean, my son asked for a fried fish and burger bar for his birthday party over the weekend! How in heavens could I smash that kind of food and still fit in my spring outfits? Oh, and I failed to mention his annual “special” cherry cheesecake!
So, I’m off on my journey. I’ve committed to three months, and I’m shooting for 20 pounds. It’s probably a little overzealous of me, but it’s a goal, something to motivate me. Every Monday, I’m going to share the number of pounds I’ve lost following the program, and track my exercising (another goal because I haven’t been so active lately – slipping).
I weighed in today, since my start on Thursday, and I’ve already seen a 1lb shed. I know, not much, but it’s one pound towards my goal and some motivation!
Have you ever used the Weight Watchers program? If so, what did you do, the online or meetings…and did it work for you?
